The Lockerz Essential Review

Lockerz was started roughly around July 2009 and has grown from around 50 members to over 16 million members. The premise of this website you login daily and collect PTZ which you can use in redemptions or in the shop if you are from the U.S. In this review I will try to be as unbiased, as possible but I will be honest with certain areas where there are problems.

Once you have logged into the website you are greeted by a clean interface with announcements on the front page. On the top of the page you have access to different sections of the website which are as follows: My Locker, Shop, Play, Connect, Redeem we will look at these in more detail later.

At the bottom of the page there is access to general information such as information there blog as well as how many PTZ you have collected.

The shop is the section of the website where Lockerz make there money it has a variety of products you can buy. They have various electronics and clothes that you can buy as well as lockerz goodies like a t-shirt or bottles designed by Lockerz. 

You are also allowed to use your PTZ on this section of the website to gain discounts on the products.The products are currently only available to people who are in the U.S although they are planning to open up stores in eleven other countries.

The play section of the website is by far one of the best parts of the websites. It has a large selection of videos from indie film makers. It also has videos from Lockerz and other websites.

Users get PTZ for watching videos, they also periodically give triple PTZ for watching videos instead of the standard 2 PTZ. At the moment they are currently offering you the opportunity for extra PTZ's by letting you get PTZ by watching a video up-to 5 times.

Connect is still in it's early stages and currently all you can do is invite people to the website if you invite 20 people to the site then you will be upgraded to Z-List.

Once you reach Z-List you will be sent a t-shirt and a sticker. You will also get double the PTZ of a standard member for watching videos answering dailies and logging in.

The redemption section of the website has numerous prizes to redeem. A redemption is roughly every month and has numerous cash prizes and products that you can claim such as the apple I-Pad.

Prior to joining our company, Mr. Maffei served as President and Chief Financial Officer of Oracle Corporation during 2005 and as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of 360networks Corporation from 2000 until 2005. Previously, Mr. Maffei was the Chief Financial Officer of Microsoft Corporation from 1997 to 2000. Other Public Company Directorships: Mr. Maffei has served as a director of DIRECTV since November 2009 and served as a director of its predecessor, DTVG, from June 2008 to November 2009. Mr. Maffei has served as a director of Electronic Arts, Inc. since 2003 and as a director of Sirius since 2009. Mr. Maffei served as a director of Expedia, Inc. from 1999 to 2003, and as a director of Starbucks Corporation from 1999 to 2006. Mr. Maffei was also Chairman of the Board of Expedia, Inc. from 1999 to 2002.

The Daily Duo

They also have fronting the website two males called the daily duo.

The website has had a fair bit of controversy over it's first year we will look at these in greater detail in the next few sections.

The customer service leaves something to be desired many members have problems but find they are unable to get any help from staff an auto generated message is sent out saying somebody will be in touch but for many people they never receive a reply.

This has lead to them being rated F the worst possible rating for customer service by the Better Business Bureau of America. 

It is claimed by many that although there are prizes there are not as many as claimed by Lockerz. There have been for calls for more transparency such as showing users how many prizes there are. Most redemptions run out in less than 30 seconds this could be because of the sheer numbers of users or as claimed by some that the prizes weren't there in great quantity to start with.

Lockerz main contact point is a Facebook group which has run in for much criticism because of it's almost communist censorship. Any criticism or negative remark about Lockerz is removed and if the user re-posts the comment they will find themselves unable to post on the page.

This has lead to many users creating fake Facebook accounts to continue posting on the page.

The July redemption went so badly in the eyes of many that the users started calling the company "Fuckerz, Lockerz". Eventually the Facebook group was taken down for approximately 18 hours before slowly been re-activated.

My account that I had created was banned when I posted on the Lockerz page.Could people either comment on the post or message me personally. "Not exactly provocative by any standards" This supports what people have claimed about the problems with censorship. If anybody wishes to see further evidence then I can provide transcripts and photos.

One of the few messages I did receive before they blocked me thus successfully proving the point. (If anyone wants transcripts and photos of this then send me a personal message).

One user said this of Lockerz in a private message "That video was very interesting, the sad part of the whole thing is that most of those 16 million members don't care about the commerce end of the site. Lockerz began it's journey with free "redemption(s)" .. and that's the real carrot that they have. They dangle this redemption to retain it's members. And even that is losing luster for many members. That and their poor customer service. Lockerz has the worst customer support i've seen from a site of this nature, it takes them 4-5 days to answer your questions if they answer at all. No customer contact number for their shop, they cancel orders on a whim based on accusations of cheating. Of which they decline to discuss in any sort of details claiming that it would reveal their cheat detection process and security.. it's ridiculous sometimes".

Many american users who have used the shop have received prizes. But some people who have used the shop to redeem prizes mainly with PTZ have found themselves labelled cheats. NOw some of them of course may have cheated but many people are claiming they are being labelled cheats simply so Lockerz does not have to pay out for goods.

On youtube you will find many thousands of videos offering invites and many web pages found through google offering prizes. Now in comes the conspiracy theories many users have claimed the handful of videos have been put there by Farscape a marketing company. Another theory out there is that if Lockerz is giving out Hundred Of Thousands of prizes every month then why are there less than a few hundred videos out there showing there prizes been unwrapped.

To this question I don't have a definite answer and this is because there is not enough evidence. I am also further hindered by the fact that there are no official records of stick levels in the public domain.

Anomynous-"I've been a member for a year. I have 17,000 points and have never redeemed anything. Lockerz is a promising site but never really fulfills your wants. People stay on it for the potential of getting something valuable yet it consumes a good portion of their time. Every month they get people's hopes up and make them think they're finally going to get what they want but when redemption comes everything's basically out in seconds. Just when you think you're going to quit lockerz they promise something else and get your hopes up again. Thats basically how it works. They don't care if you've been a member for a year, as long as they get their money they know more people will come".

Anomynous-"Personally think that although anyone with a life can't make it to a redemption, it's still cool to get things off the shop with huge discounts or even get them free with your points. And good job deleting his comment, lockerz".

The main website is good and I feel that most would describe it as able to serve it's purpose. I myself can find no problem there. The problems with this website is not the website but the people running the website with most people feeling the customer service is appalling and the Facebook groups censorship is extreme to say the least. And the integral part of the website Redeem has a lack of transparency how hard would be, if they have nothing to hide why can't they put the stock levels on the page.

My final words on Lockerz are it is a very good idea but if they want to become the top website as claimed in the video by Kathy Savitt then they need to look at themselves very hard in the mirror and clean up there act otherwise they aren't going to be anyone's homepage.
